John Horton Conway FRS (/ˈkɒnweɪ/; born 26 December 1937) is an English mathematician.

He invented Conway's Game of Life, a well-known cellular automaton.

Areas of research

Conway is active in the theory of finite groups, knot theory, number theory, combinatorial game theory and coding theory.
